Fall Conference 2009

The Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association is a leader in training for police executives. The association is driven by the values of professionalism, leadership and lifelong learning, and regard these values as essential to excellence in executive policing.

The The Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association Education and Training Committee plans our Fall Conference and Golf Tournament. More than 70 members are expected to attend this mid-year event that features timely, executive-level training.

In addition to the formal executive training, the conference provides an opportunity to network with other law enforcement professions in an informal setting.

Executive Training Institute (ETI) & Expo is the premier training venue for police executives throughout the Upper Midwest.  It features national keynote speakers and well-respected local authorities. ETI offers breakout sessions that provide participants with information about best practices in policing, resources for local departments and cutting edge technology.   ETI also includes an awards banquet and an exhibit hall.  It is offered annually at St. Cloud, Minnesota.

CLEO & Command Academy is designed for chief law enforcement officers (CLEOs) and their immediate command staff.  The Academy provides them with fundamental information necessary to perform the duties of office.  Among its course offering are sessions on budgeting, state and federal mandates, human resources, data practices, community involvement, ethics and leadership. The Academy has been recognized by the Minnesota POST Board, and the League of Minnesota Cities as essential training for new chiefs.  It also gives more seasoned chiefs with an opportunity to refine and refresh their skills. It is offered annually at Camp Ripley.

The Leadership Academy targets first-line supervisors and helps them make the transition from patrol officer to supervisor. It provides practical information about training, motivating and evaluating the officers they supervise. It affords them the opportunity to identify their management style.  The Academy is designed to provide supervisors with the skills necessary to lead high performance teams.  It is offered in the spring and the fall of each year.

These programs have been developed by the MN Chiefs Education and Training Committee in their commitment to provide quality training for police executives in a convenient and affordable manner.
